Tallinn’s Old Town Days Begins in a Week

Tallinn’s Old Town Days celebrates the city’s rich cultural heritage, its blend of medieval and modern architecture, and the general sense of community residents and visitors alike experience on a daily basis. Every year the festival offers the public a wide array of events and activities, ranging from concerts and fairs to handicraft workshops.

This is a special year for Tallinn, as this medieval city celebrates its 777th anniversary of receiving Lübeck city rights in 1248, which officially recognised its city status. However, human settlement in Tallinn can be traced back by over five millennia. The history of the festival is also nearly as long as its name in Estonian—Tallinna vanalinna päevad—which was first held in 1982.

Trad.Attack!

Old Town Days will officially begin with a concert by world-renowned Estonian folk and rock band Trad.Attack!, followed by one of Estonia’s most beloved singers and bands, Vaiko Eplik and Eliit. The opening day will also include concerts by La Luna and Daniel Levi. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the Parliament building.

The second day, 7 June, will feature a myriad of events throughout the day, including a circus, a family event for pets, and more concerts throughout the Old Town. Clicherik & Mäx and Põhja Konn will give concerts in the evening, and there will be a silent disco in the Bishop’s Garden starting at 21:00.

The last day of the festival will feature many more similar events and concerts, and will end later in the evening. However, if you’d like a late-night tour of a different genre, there will be a tour of ghost stories in the Old Town starting at 22:00.
