Viru Folk 2026: Year of Indigenous Cultures

The Viru Folk Music Festival is returning to the historic coastal village of Käsmu, in Lahemaa National Park, on 7–8 August. As both a music and cultural festival, this year’s theme is indigenous cultures, featuring the music, traditions, and cultural heritage of indigenous peoples. The festival takes place along the coast against the backdrop of pine forests, adding to the atmosphere.

The 2026 programme includes diverse selections of music inspired by different traditions, including folk, bluegrass, blues, indigenous rhythms, and much more. There will also be workshops, discussions, cultural events, environmental activities, and visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy local foods and traditions. This year’s programme is a family-friendly event, as there will be activities for children included.

The lineup includes popular Estonian artists such as Sadu, as well as artists from Norway, Scotland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark, Georgia, Finland, Chile, the US, and even New Zealand. Performances and concerts will take place on multiple stages in the festival area, and naturally there will be a children’s area, food and drink area, and other amenities.

Visitors arriving by car can use the free parking area, and if that is full there is paid parking. There will be a caravan area, as well as a camping zone. Regular buses and festival charter buses will be available, and for a special treat, you can arrive by boat from nearby Võsu.

Tickets as well as all other information regarding the festival, its programme, transport, and accommodations are available here.
