Tartu Classical Guitar Festival

For five nights lovers of classical guitar can enjoy nightly concerts in and around Tartu. From 22–26 September, the Tartu Classical Guitar Festival will have local and international artists doing what they do best: playing their passion on the world’s most popular instrument.

The first concert will be Duo Viiv on 22 September, consisting of Siri Löffel, a Swiss recorder player, and Estonian guitarist Priit Peterson. He will also play the theorbo. Originally formed in Basel, Switzerland, their bond grew out of a shared love of early Baroque. This concert will take place in the Tartu University Museum.

The next day, 23 September, will see Duo Štendler and Antigüedad, featuring Karmen Štendler of Slovenia, and David Antigüedad of Spain. Karmen performs actively in Europe and the United States, and David is known across Europe and Latin America. They are both active as chamber musicians. This concert will take place at the Heino Elleri Music School, in the Tubin Hall.

Concert number three on 24 September will feature Estonia’s own Harald Trass, known locally and in Germany for having won multiple competitions and giving several solo concerts. This guitar virtuoso will perform in the Tartu City Museum.

Duo Kristjan Tamm and Jelena Ossipova will perform on 25 September in the Nõo Music School, near Tartu. This concert represents the “middle generation” of Estonia’s classical guitar music, and will feature various arrangements of pop and South American guitar music.

Rounding up the Tartu Classical Guitar Festival on 26 September will be the grand finale again in the Heino Eller Music School, the Tubin Hall. Students and teachers alike from the guitar department will perform.
