Lamprey Festival in Narva-Jõesuu

Narva-Jõesuu is Estonia’s northeasternmost region, and is known as a holiday area, with spas and hotels and restaurants welcoming visitors from Estonia and abroad. On 26 September, the Lamprey Festival will take place in Narva-Jõesuu, showcasing the gastronomic delights of the region, as well as the culture. There will be street food, lamprey tastings, activities for the whole family, a market, and much more!
Contrary to popular belief, the lamprey is not an eel. It might look like one, but it’s technically a fish, and it’s one of the most celebrated foods of the Narva-Jõesuu region. During the Lamprey Festival, there will be a market open and run by local fishermen where visitors can sample lampreys prepared in various ways. There will also be many other types of fish available for sampling, and anyone who wants can also buy lampreys and other fish at the market. The market will be open from 10:00 until 17:00.
Starting at noon there will be workshops offering tips from catching lampreys and other fish, to cooking them. Consider these master classes, if you will. The local fishermen and chefs are experts in their work.
At 15:30 there will be a concert by Puuluup, a folk music duo who recently represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Narva-Jõesuu is approximately two and a half hours from Tallinn by car, and is also reachable by bus. Trains run to Narva, where passengers can transfer to a regional bus to reach Narva-Jõesuu. There are several spa hotels, hotels, and rentals available for accommodation in the immediate vicinity.
