The 18th Saaremaa Opera Days, held in the courtyard of Kuressaare Castle, will begin on Tuesday, 22 July. This year, the festival’s star guest is the Daegu Opera from South Korea. The programme features Gluck’s “Orpheus and Eurydice”, Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly”, and the rare “Sim Tjong” by Isang Yun, originally composed for the opening ceremony of the 1972 Munich Olympics. Also on offer are a Korean dance gala, and a children’s musical, “Puss in Boots”.

The festival’s artistic director, Ain Anger, and executive producer Kertu Orro emphasise the diversity of the programme and the importance of cultural exchange. Kabgun Chung, director of the Daegu Opera Theater, promises unforgettable experiences.

In addition to opera, the Saaremaa Opera Days offer evening and late-night programming, including a concert by Mirjam Dede’s new band in the Opera Royal Salon, and soul music performed by Haldi & Flamingo. After the opera gala on Saturday evening, 26 July, attendees can return to the mainland on a special night ferry departing from Kuivastu harbor at 1:30 in the morning.

Tickets are available on the festival’s official website.
