Rakvere to host its very first contemporary dance festival

The inaugural Rakvere Contemporary Dance Festival KANTS is set to take place from March 15-17.  The new event marks a collaboration between the Rakvere Cultural Centre and the Estonian Dance Agency.

“Our good cooperation with the Estonian Dance Agency started as part of the EV100 anniversary celebrations. Today, however, we have gathered the courage and are organising the first contemporary dance festival,” expressed Eve Alte, director of the Rakvere Culture Centre.

“Different and very high-quality dance productions are created in Estonia every year, and it is a great pleasure to bring three of these excellent performances to Rakvere at once,” expressed Raido Bergstein, head of the Estonian Dance Agency.

The performance “Soledad” on March 15 will intertwine flamenco culture with modern dance, offering a multi-dimensional exploration of loneliness. Musicians from Spain, Canada, and Estonia will join a solo flamenco dancer on stage.

On March 16, “Change”, by choreographer Igor Lider, will delve into the dynamic world of street dance, showcasing the expertise of four male dancers deeply rooted in hip-hop culture.

Meanwhile, the closing performance of the festival on March 17, “Rhythm”, pays homage to tap dance and rhythm. It will incorporate elements from legendary tap dancers a hundred years ago, while also introducing new artistic expressions.

Festival passes, as well as tickets for individual performances are available at Piletievi
