Exciting events in Estonia this week

 

15 Oct 2024–30 Apr 2025 “Near and Far”, photo exhibition, Estonian Museum of Natural History, Tallinn

“Near and Far” is a photo exhibition by Kalmer Lehepuu, focusing on images from Southern Estonia. It is one of many exhibitions in the Estonian Museum of Natural History, in Tallinn. The museum features exhibits of Estonian nature, biodiversity, geology, and more! Open every day except Monday from 10:00–17:00.

 

24 Mar “Longing for Lost Space”, Kumu Art Museum, Tallinn

This is the last week to visit the “Longing for Lost Space” exhibition by Sirja-Liisa Eelma, in Tallinn’s Kumu Art Museum. A conceptual minimalist, Eelma’s œuvres feature the relationship between emptiness, silence, and what is and isn’t visible.

 

25 Mar “Estonia—The Story of a Ship”, Seaplane Harbour, Tallinn

This is the last week to view the exhibition of the Estonia, including details about its history, its significance to Estonians, and its horrible fate in 1994. The exhibition focuses on the ship itself, and not investigations into the accident. It offers viewers the possibility for dignified introspection.

 

26 Mar Orienteering Day, Tartu

Every Wednesday in Tartu is another chance to test your orienteering skills, each week in a different location. This week is in Raadi-Vahe. There are four courses of varying difficulties, and on-site childcare is available for active parents.

 

27 Mar Satelles and VLKN, Sotsiaalkeskus, Tallinn

Budapest’s very own melodic hardcore band, Satelles, is fresh from their European tour, performing in Tallinn for the first time, performing their best material as well as tracks from their new EP. The opening act is VLKN, another popular Hungarian band.

 

28 Mar The Pipes of Vanemuine, Tartu

A unique performance joining the centuries with the music of Bach, and Ester Mägi. The music will feature the pipe organ, and violin. Both performers have an impressive résumé showcasing their experience and talent. This will be a concert to remember, in the Vanemuine Concert Hall.

 

29 Mar Germantown Youth Choir (USA), St. John’s Church, Tallinn

The Germantown Youth Choir from the US will have four free concerts across Estonia. Featuring folk music and gospel, the free concert in Tallinn’s St. John’s Church (Jaani kirik) starts at 16:00 on Saturday, 29 March.

 

29 Mar Academic Women’s Choir: “Giving Voice”, Tartu

The 80th anniversary celebration of the University of Tartu’s Academic Women’s Choir, this year titled “Giving Voice”, will be held in the Kammivabrik building in Tartu on 29 March at 16:00. “Giving Voice” is a tribute to womanhood, and the voices passed down over the centuries.

 

29 Mar Kadri Tegelmann & Paul Daniel Live, Folk/Jazz Fusion, Philly Joe’s, Tallinn

Jazzliit and Philly Joe’s present Kadri Tegelmann (vocals) and Paul Daniel (guitar) in their “Veere, veere päevakene” concert. A fusion of folk music and jazz, the music features special arrangements for vocals and guitar from the 17th century to today. The concert begins at 20:00 on Saturday.

 

30 Mar, 12 Apr Hans Zimmer, “Organs and Gongs”, Tallinn and Tartu, respectively

The music of Hans Zimmer, one of cinema’s most prolific score composers, as heard in films such as Interstellar, Inception, The Lion King, Dune, Gladiator and so much more over his career of more than 40 years, will be featured in “Organs and Gongs”. The first concert is Sunday, 30 March in Tallinn’s St. John’s Church, and the second is Saturday, 12 April in Tartu’s St. Paul’s Church.
