Hiiu Folk Is an Escape Festival for the Family

Festivals are fun, but sometimes you just want to attend a festival without waiting in line for beer, or waiting for beer to leave you so you can drive. If you want the festival feel, but without the festival wildness, Hiiu Folk is the festival for you—and your family. It is the only alcohol-free festival in Estonia, tucked away in the beautiful nature of Hiiumaa.

From 10 to 13 July, workshops and activities will be available to festival pass holders, and the first evening’s concert will feature Trad.Attack!, probably Estonia’s preeminent folk and electronic fusion bands. The second and third days will offer hikes, a Hungarian dance workshop, several activities for children—including a visit by Lotte—and quite a few folk music bands in the evening.

Hiiumaa is one of the favourite destinations in Estonia for regular visitors to the country. Untouched nature surrounded by beautiful shores in the Baltic Sea, and even the winter provides unique opportunities to drive on the ice highways between the islands. If you plan to visit by car, it’s likely a good idea to buy ferry tickets in advance here, or you can buy a bus ticket from Tallinn here.

The full programme for Hiiu Folk provides additional information, such as accommodation, and if you want to explore the island more yourself, this is a good source of information.
