Women’s Choir to Give 80th Anniversary Concert

The Academic Women’s Choir of the University of Tartu is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a unique concert and performance titled “Giving Voice” in Tallinn’s Kultuurikatel on 5 April. With a focus on womanhood, this night will be a tribute to women’s voices passed down through the generations.

Founded in 1945, the Women’s Choir is a concert choir, although its members are not professional singers. They have proudly participated in every Song and Dance Festival since their inception, earning them a firm place in Estonia’s history and culture. The music they perform is a mix of traditional and modern arrangements of Estonian and other music.

The “Giving Voice” concert will be conducted by Triin Koch, who has been the choir’s conductor for 20 years. This special performance will also be directed by Maria Usk, and include the dramaturgical work of Maria-Lee Liivak. From classical works to contemporary compositions, this production is certain to proudly represent the traditions and lives shared by mothers and daughters.

The concert and performance themselves will be in Estonians, with explanations in English for international audience members provided in the event programme. The event begins at 16:00 on 5 April in Tallinn’s Kultuurikatel, and tickets are available here.
