PÖFF contributes €12 million to Estonia’s economy

The Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) has once again demonstrated its significant economic impact, generating nearly 12 million euros for the Estonian economy in 2024. According to a recent economic impact assessment, every euro invested in PÖFF yields a return of 6.9 euros.

The evaluation, conducted using the SuMu socio-economic impact model, took into account festival expenditures, tax revenue, job creation, and visitor spending. Festival attendees spent an estimated 4.2 million euros, including contributions from both domestic and international visitors.

Visitor satisfaction was notably high, with PÖFF receiving an average rating of 6.3 out of 7 and its film industry event, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, scoring 6.4. Over half of the respondents rated both events with maximum points.

“Eesti Konjunktuuriinstituut stated, ‘Large international events like PÖFF and Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event enhance Estonia’s reputation, attract foreign visitors, and positively impact the entire economy.'”

The 2024 festival set new records, drawing 93,044 attendees and featuring 864 screenings. The next PÖFF film festival will take place from November 7–23, 2025.
