Renowned Finnish cello metal group Apocalyptica will perform their at the Alexela Concert Hall in Tallinn today (October 22) as part of their current “Plays Metallica Vol. 2 Tour 2024.” The concert will see the band perform tracks from their new album, which is a sequel to their iconic 1996 debut, “Plays Metallica by Four Cellos.” The new release continues the band’s tribute to the legendary heavy metal band Metallica, and showcases their unique style that blends classical instrumentation with metal influences.
Founded in 1993 in Helsinki, Apocalyptica have carved out a distinctive niche in the neoclassical genre, famously performing without traditional metal instruments like guitars and bass. The band consists of three accomplished cellists, Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Perttu Kivilaakso, all graduates of the Sibelius Academy.
Apocalyptica have released a total of nine studio albums to date, featuring a mix of covers and original compositions, ranging from instrumental pieces to vocal tracks.
The band has not only supported Metallica in concert but also had the unique opportunity to perform with them during their 30th anniversary celebration in San Francisco in 2011. Their impressive collaborations extend to a range of other renowned musicians too including the likes of Corey Taylor, Till Lindemann, and Max Cavalera.
Tickets for the concert are currently still available on Piletilevi.
