Baltic Film Days to showcase regional cinema in Tartu

The Baltic Film Days are set to return from August 29 to 31, showcasing the finest cinema from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. This year, in honour of Tartu being named the European Capital of Culture for 2024, the city will host this year’s edition of the festival.

The festival will feature a carefully curated selection of films, highlighting the strength and cultural significance of Baltic cinema. Audiences can look forward to a diverse lineup that includes recent Latvian and Lithuanian feature films and documentaries, the Tartu 2024 short documentary collection “Wild South,” the Baltic short film program, and the Estonian film “Savvusanna sõsarad,” which garnered international acclaim by winning the Best Director prize in the Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Documentary competition.

In addition to the film screenings at Tartu Elektriteater, Baltic Film Days will offer a series of Q&A sessions, providing an interactive platform for filmmakers to share their insights and engage with the audience. These discussions are designed to deepen understanding, foster connections, and promote cultural exchange, aligning with the festival’s goal of building a better future through cinema and dialogue.

All films will be screened with Estonian and English subtitles, and entry to the screenings is free of charge. However, attendees are encouraged to reserve their free tickets in advance through Piletilevi to secure their chosen seats.
