Lithuanian Opera to be heard at Pärnu Opera Days

Pärnu Opera Days will take place on July 4-6 at the city’s concert hall. This year, the guest theatre company is the Klaipėda State Music Theatre, who will present world classics and the best of Lithuanian opera. For the Klaipėda State Music Theatre, this event marks the biggest tour in the theatre’s history.

“Pärnu Opera Days has become one of the most important events in the summer capital. It is a pleasure to host the Klaipėda State Music Theatre, who offers audiences both international and Lithuanian opera,” shared Marika Pärk, Director of Pärnu Concert Hall and Artistic Director of Pärnu Opera Days.

This summer, Pärnu Opera Days will feature “The Daughter of the Regiment” by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti and “The Bear by Lithuanian composer Bronius Kutavičius.

While Donizetti’s opera is well-known to opera audiences, “The Bear” may be a new experience. The opera is set in the remote regions of 19th-century Lithuania, where pagan beliefs still hold sway. The audience meets an eccentric family, including the young animist Count Mykolas and his mad mother. Unexpectedly, a bear appears, setting off a series of unprecedented events that delve into the darkest aspects of human nature.

Written in 2000, “The Bearis the third opera by Bronius Kutavičius and his first ‘grand opera’. It features numerous soloists, a full orchestra, a mixed choir, and ballet dancers.

Tickets for Pärnu Opera Days are available on the website of Eesti Kontsert
