Warm up with some folk dancing in Tartu

Tartu’s historic town hall square will be transformed into a lively dance floor this Saturday, December 9, for the annual Wintry Tartu Folk Dance Day. In total, nearly 800 dancers from Tartu County are expected to perform in the hour-long fast-paced programme.
As part of the extensive schedule of events as part of Tartu’s Christmas City the Wintry Folk Dance Day is one of the liveliest. A staggering nearly 800 folk dancers in national dress are expected to take part in the hour-long dancing programme that has been created by Viivika Kook. The event in Tartu’s town hall square, will begin at 1 pm.
If an hour of dancing is not enough, the party atmosphere will head to Püssirohukelder (the Gunpowder Cellar in English) after, where there will be live music from Rasmus Kadaja on the Estonian accordion and garmon, along with Ott-Mait Põldsepp on the acoustic guitar.
If all of that wasn’t enough you can also visit to the Christmas market on Küüni street where you will find high-quality Estonian handicrafts, delicious festive foods as well as items from Latvia and Lithuania. The Christmas market will be open every Friday and Saturday until Christmas.
