The Rolling Stones to rock Kumu

Martin Scorsese assembled a dream team of cinematographers to capture a Rolling Stones concert at the Beacon Theater in New York in 2006. The result was the spectacular concert film “The Rolling Stones. Shine a Light”, which will be played this evening, March 13, as part of Kumu‘s series of cultural documentaries.

“After the session, you can go home with a feeling that, in addition to seeing a big and beautiful film, you have just come from a very good concert. You don’t even have to be a fan to get the experience,” wrote Eesti Päevaleht in 2009, when it was screened under the title “Shine a Light – valgus paale” in a few Estonian cinemas.

Known as a long-time fan of the Rolling Stones, Scorsese has used their music in his films and has repeatedly spoken of how the band freed his mind. He has directed concert and music documentaries before, the most famous of which are “The Last Waltz”, which captures The Band’s farewell concert, and “No Direction Home”, in which he portrays Bob Dylan.

Musician and radio journalist Andres Oja will introduce the film, which will be shown on March 13 at 6 pm in the Kumu auditorium. Entry to the screening, which is part of the “Kumu Documentary” film series (made in collaboration PÖFF), is free of charge.
