Vintage Weekend in Haapsalu

Many people yearn for days when cars couldn’t drive themselves, and in fact drivers had to actually know much more than simply how to steer a car down the road. Manual transmissions, no cruise control, no lane assist…you know, proper driving! From 11–13 September in the seaside town of Haapsalu, Vintage Weekend, or in Estonian “Wintage Weekend”—there’s a slight nuance in the translation—will welcome anyone who appreciates the classical designs of the automobiles of the past.
The festival’s first day, Friday, will have an official opening show at 19:00 in Haapsalu’s Kaluri Clubhouse featuring the Dance Wonderland Cabaret, showcasing Hollywood elegance from the 1920s to the 1950s. The official opening of Vintage Weekend however will be at the Grand Holm Marina at 21:00, followed immediately by the “Night Drive”, or Öösõit in Estonian. This will specifically be a quick visit to the city’s historic sites. At 22:00 back at the Marina, there will be an ABBA tribute show and disco.
Saturday, 12 September, will have the vintage vehicle exhibition at the Vasikaholmi Beach car park from 9:00 till noon, followed by the Vintage Vehicle Parade, throughout downtown Haapsalu. All the vehicles in this parade will be at least 35 years old, meaning nothing after 1990. At the same time until 18:00, there will be a market, flea market, concerts, and a fashion show featuring all things vintage.
If you have a vintage car, you’re also welcome to take part in the car orienteering event at 15:00.
At 19:30 that evening, there will be a concert by Anne Veski, as well as a dance troupe, followed by a disco evening.
The official closing of Vintage Weekend will be the next morning on Sunday at 11:00, just after the vintage and antique auction.
