Potato Festival at the Paavli Cultural Factory

In November, Tallinn will host a completely new event when the Potato Festival takes over the Paavli Cultural Factory on 15–16 November 2025. The festival brings together culture, science, food, and creativity under one roof. Everything centres around the potato, one of the key symbols of Estonian culinary heritage.
The purpose of the festival is to highlight the potato’s significance both in history and in contemporary culture. The potato has been an essential ingredient in numerous countries—from Syria to Finland and from Ukraine to Malaysia—and the festival sheds light on its rich and diverse cultural background.
The two-day program fills the entire Paavli area. The event opens on Saturday, 15 November at 12:00 with a photography exhibition titled “Scenes from the Lives of Potatoes”. Throughout the day, lectures explore the potato’s journey to India and its place in Estonian literature. Musical performances are provided by Duo Duood and Duo Compass, and the smaller hall will host piano concerts and improvisations. The day concludes with a reflective lecture on the cultural history of the potato.
On Sunday, 16 November, the focus shifts to food traditions. The day begins with a workshop on preparing the Estonian “mulgipuder”, which is listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. The programme then continues with lectures and musical performances.
Throughout the weekend, visitors can participate in hands-on workshops such as potato printing, Udmurt pelmeni making, and potato-spiral crafting. A diverse food market offers potato dishes from around the world, including Estonia, Malaysia, Ukraine, India, Mexico, Brazil, and Turkey.
The Potato Festival will be held at the Paavli Cultural Factory (Paavli 7, Tallinn). Doors open at 12:00, and the programme runs until 18:00. Tickets cost €5, and entry is free for children under 12. Learn more about the event here.
