10 April–31 October Consulate of EGS exhibition, Tallinn

Works by the internationally renowned Finnish graffiti, contemporary and glass artist EGS—who, like Banksy, conceals his identity—are on display at the PoCo Museum of Pop Culture in the Rotermann Quarter. Highly recommended, especially for fans of glass art.

11–23 April Estonian Music Days, Tallinn and Tartu

A classical music festival held since 1979, featuring concerts where new works by both young and more established Estonian composers, as well as international guests, are performed by top choirs, orchestras and soloists.

13–30 April Photography in Telliskivi, Tallinn

Throughout April, the Telliskivi Creative City area hosts two high-quality photography exhibitions: until 26 April, “Human Baltic” at the Juhan Kuus Dokfoto Centre, documenting everyday life behind the Soviet Iron Curtain, and for four days longer, Fotografiska’s exhibition of musician, actor and band portraits by Anton Corbijn.

16 April Stand-up comedy from Ireland, Tallinn

One of the most respected contemporary comedians in Ireland and the United Kingdom, Ed Byrne shares humorous highlights from his childhood in Dublin, his travels abroad, and recent societal changes.

17 April Argentine tango show, Narva

A dance theatre performance led by dancer and choreographer Marcos Ayala, arriving in Estonia for the third time from Buenos Aires, offering the elegance of the 1920s and 30s and the thrill of dance to the sensual rhythms of tango and jazz music.

17–18 April Smelt Festival band nights, Pärnu

Smelt dishes are served throughout almost the entire month of April in Pärnu’s restaurants and pubs. Hahni Pub entertains weekend audiences with two live bands, Kolumbus Kris and Sibyl Vane, along with their supporting acts.

18 April Spring market at the Song Festival Grounds, Tallinn

The opening of the large-scale event season at the Song Festival Grounds brings stalls selling handicrafts, jewellery, home goods, plants, smoked fish, BBQ meat and other farm delicacies. There is a dedicated play area for children, as well as street food vendors.

18 April Orchestra from Norway and Kuusisto, Tallinn

When the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra arrives to perform music by Arvo Pärt, Veiko Tubin and Erkki-Sven Tüür, and violinist Pekka Kuusisto appears on stage as the orchestra’s artistic director with his 1695 Stradivarius violin, the evening can already be described as a musical experience.

18 April Duo Ruut concert, Pärnu

The folk duo of Ann-Lisett Rebane and Katariina Kivi—who have achieved international success including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival—perform at the Tempel cultural club. The two artists present songs on a single kannel, including material from their latest album “Ilmateade”, which won the Estonian Ethno/Folk Album of the Year award.

19 April Aki Rissanen—Omniwerk, Kuressaare

Finnish composer and pianist Aki Rissanen brings a concert to the Kuressaare Cultural Centre where Renaissance music meets contemporary expression. The highlight of the evening is Omniwerk—a unique combination of two historical keyboard instruments, whose story connects Leonardo da Vinci’s design work with the tonal qualities favoured by Johann Sebastian Bach.
