Tartu Mobility Week 2025

European Mobility Week is an annual event dedicated to exploring environmentally-friendly—and often fun!—alternative modes of mobility in urban settings. In conjunction with this, Tartu Mobility Week 2025 will offer several public events with the same purpose.

For the entire week, Tartu city buses—not county buses—will be free to the public. This is a great opportunity to explore more distant parts of the city that you otherwise might not think to venture to.

On 16 September, the first day, there will be a guide bicycle tour throughout Tartu showcasing moving images displayed on various buildings. These animations will be by Roland Seer, known for creating intricate fantasy worlds, and who has been recognised at the Venice Film Festival for his work.

The next day there will be a walking tour in the evening with famed Estonian poet Contra, who will guide participants through the Ülejõe district of Tartu, recounting tales, telling stories, and reciting poetry.

Stina Leek is a Tartu-based street artist who, on 18 September early that night, will offer a guided walking tour of the Aparaaditehas area, revealing some well-hidden art, and talking about the alternative lifestyle community that exists there—Ajuokse.

Tartu has always had a legendary nightlight, giving rise to many of Estonia’s most prominent people, including politicians, artists, athletes, scientists, and more. Tartu’s nightlife is what all these people have in common, and Juhan Kari, a famous local event organiser, will take participants on a guided walking tour of the city’s most famous locales on 19 September.

On 22 September, Car-Free Day invites everyone in the city to get out of their cars, and walk, take a bus, ride a bike, or even an e-scooter. There will be an obstacle course open to the public to experience what urban mobility is like for people with baby strollers, people in wheelchairs, and people with limited visibility. The night will be hosted by DJ Breleri, who has promised to play only music that everyone knows by heart.

The complete programme is available here.
