Tartu Buzz Old Town Festival 2026

Tartu is Estonia’s cultural capital, and to celebrate this, the Tartu Sumin, or “Tartu Buzz” Old Town Festival will take place in the heart of the city from 1–16 August. The opening day is the main day to attend, however, as there will be ten different flea markets in various locations, and concerts and food throughout the day and evening.
Each of these markets has their own theme, ranging from fabric, fashion, and sports to toys, books, and music. The entire event will be centred around Rüütli Street, with the side streets also hosting various concerts and flea markets. Many courtyards that are normally closed to the public will also be open, and there are also walking tours available to learn about the history and some of the secrets of Tartu.
In cooperation with the Tartu Buzz Festival, there are three other rather important “side events” that are major events in their own right. The first is the Tartu Food and Wine Festival, which will be held 7–8 August next to Küüni Street. For two days visitors can try wonderful drinks and delicious foods.
From 8–15 August is Tartuff, or the Tartu Love Film Festival. This year will have eight days of the festival instead of the normal six. There will be a massive screen set up on Town Hall Square in the evenings for visitors to watch great movies in seats with friends and family.
The third side event is on 12 August, Tartu Youth Day, which will feature workshops, discussions, art, and an evening concert by the popular hip hop duo Clicherik & Mäx, all for young people.
The full programme for this year’s Tartu Buzz Festival is available here. Entrance to the festival itself is free for all ages, but some side events might require a ticket. Tartu can be easily reached from Tallinn by bus, train, car, and even bicycle.
