Estonia’s largest escape room has opened at AHHAA in Tartu

The AHHAA Science Centre in Tartu recently opened a new light and optics-themed escape room called Ahhaa, Valguslinn! (City of Light). Launched in late November, this interactive experience invites visitors to solve 25 light-related puzzles exploring its scientific principles, artistic applications, and practical uses in technology and the environment.

Visitors can experiment with light and shadows to create illusions, uncover the mysteries of the universe, and understand the role of light in everyday life. Pilvi Kolk, AHHAA’s board member, highlighted how the escape room merges science with puzzle-solving. “Escape rooms and science are very similar in nature – everyone has to work out their own conclusions. Moreover, light is all around us, we just make it tangible for the visitor,” Kolk explained.

Participants can choose from three difficulty levels, accommodating all ages. While individuals can explore solo, Kolk recommends tackling the challenges in groups to make the experience even more engaging. Time limits are optional, giving visitors the freedom to tailor their experience.

Originating from Cap Sciences in Bordeaux, France, the Valguslinn exhibit will remain at AHHAA until April 27 2025.
