The popular annual Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival (known by its acronym HÕFF), will return to the city’s cultural centre this weekend – April 26-28. The festival’s closing film is Boy Kills World, which doesn’t release in cinemas until next month.

HÕFF, which is organised by the Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), has developed into an internationally recognised and highly popular genre film festival. Becoming part of the Mélies International Festivals Federation, and receiving many premieres each year. Haapsalu’s beautifully restored culture centre, with its three cinema halls, is the home of the festival.

The main programme is the heart of the festival. This year it features 11 films from around the world. The selection includes the previously mentioned ‘Boy Kills World’.

The numerous other programmes on offer include HÕFF Retro, which shows forgotten b films, Estonian classics, and soviet oddities. The Little Nightmares short film programme, Estonian Genre Film Competition, and HÕFF Family Films for the youngsters.

You can learn more about the festival and the full schedule of films on the official HÕFF website here
