Tallinn Airport reports highest number of passengers since the beginning of the pandemic in October

In the month of October, 184,655 passengers passed through Tallinn Airport. This is the highest number of passengers since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic , reaching 58 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.

According to Eero Pärgmäe, commercial director of Tallinn Airport,  the vaccination program is having a positive effect on passenger numbers “Vaccinated people have understood that travelling does not involve a greater risk of infection than, for example, going to a shopping centre, restaurant or theatre” going on to further explain that “in different European countries, showing a vaccine certificate is an everyday routine and so it is much easier for vaccinated people to enjoy travelling”.

This increase in passenger numbers is not just being fuelled by the vaccination program and lower perceived risks, but also a strong desire to go on holiday or visit relatives and friends living abroad. A recent survey conducted by Kantar Emor found that one in four people were eager to visit friends and relatives abroad. 32 per cent of respondents even stated they would fly to the Mediterranean as soon as possible.

This increasing demand also comes at a time when Tallinn Airport has announced that this winter it will be possible to fly to 40 destinations direct from Tallinn. This is an all-time record for the airport.
