Tallink passenger and freight statistics for 2024

Tallink has published its passenger and freight statistics for the fourth quarter and December 2024, as well as the total number of passengers, vehicles and freight transported in 2024.

In 2024, Tallink carried a total of 5,580,016 passengers on all the company’s routes, which is 2.2 per cent less than in 2023. The number of passengers increased by 2.5 per cent on the Finland-Estonia route and by 8.0 per cent on the Estonia-Sweden route compared to 2023, but decreased by 15.4 per cent on the Finland-Sweden route.

In 2024, the number of vehicles transported decreased by 7.5 per cent compared to the previous year, with a total of 777,592 vehicles transported on the company’s routes. The number of vehicles increased by 8.8 per cent on the Estonia-Sweden routes compared to 2023, but decreased by 6.6 per cent on the Finland-Estonia route and by 21.2 per cent on the Finland-Sweden routes.

Freight transport continued to be affected by the pressures of the economic environment, with the number of freight units carried by the company on all routes decreasing by 6.4 per cent compared to the previous year. In 2024, the company’s vessels carried a total of 303,234 freight units. During the year, the number of freight units increased by 3.4 per cent on the Finland-Sweden routes, but decreased by 5.1 per cent on the Finland-Estonia route and by 19.6 per cent on the Estonia-Sweden routes.

“Taking into account the general economic climate in 2024, additional EU requirements and taxes affecting the shipping industry and low consumer confidence in all our key markets, the year was ultimately satisfactory,” commented Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp.

“The new year gives moderate hope for an economic recovery, which could also support the recovery in trade. We will keep part of our fleet on charter until our domestic market has fully recovered from the crisis. For our investors, we want to continue to pay dividends and we aim to maintain our position as a stable and attractive dividend destination,” added Nõgene.
