Jewels of the Serlachius Art Collection at the Magnificent Kadriorg Palace

Finnish visual art on display this summer at the Kadriorg Palace Art Museum.

This summer, visitors strolling through Tallinn’s Kadriorg Park may be delighted to see Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s painting “Spring” fluttering on the park’s flags. The exhibition Symphony of Art and Nature, currently on view at Kadriorg Art Museum, presents for the first time in Estonia highlights from the collection of the Gösta Serlachius Fine Arts Foundation.

The core of the collection, established by the prominent businessman Gösta Serlachius, consists of works from the Golden Age of Finnish art, the period spanning the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with the work of Akseli Gallen-Kallela occupying a central place.

The exhibition creates a dialogue between classics of Finnish art, Old Masters from Western Europe, and contemporary Finnish art, all united by exceptional artistic mastery. In addition to Gallen-Kallela, visitors can view works by Albert Edelfelt, Helene Schjerfbeck, Hugo Simberg, José de Ribera, Anna Retulainen, and Anu Tuominen.

The exhibition also includes various games and activity guides both for adults and children, encouraging visitors to observe the artworks slowly and attentively. The permanent exhibition at the Kadriorg Museum has also been renewed. Interesting stories about the conservation of the artworks have been highlighted alongside the pieces. Through these stories, visitors can gain insight into the fascinating work of art conservators.

After exploring the palace, visitors can continue their cultural journey across the street at the Mikkel Museum. This summer, the museum is presenting an exhibition dedicated to the famous blue-and-white ceramics of Delft.
