Jääaaria—A Unique Operatic Performance

Pärnu Opera is taking a unique operatic performance around Estonia in February. This show, which is approximately one hour, promises intelligent fantasy on the stage. It will feature classical music as well as more modern compositions. Whatever corner of Estonia you’re in, you’ll be close to one of the performances.

The main soloist for “Jääaaria” is soprano Kai Kallastu. While we can forgive her for having studied at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki—just as you can forgive the writer for this attempt at humour—Kai has extensive experience in several genres of singing, choral and opera alike, and she has performed in numerous countries.

Composer and conductor Andrus Kallastu will play the piano. This married couple have performed together many times. The programme will include various works by Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Lehár, Kálmán, and others.

The first concert of “Jääaaria” will take place on 6 February in Alatskivi Castle, near Lake Peipus. There are many places to stay and much to see in this region of Estonia, and this concert would be a fitting end to a wonderful day.

The second concert will be on 7 February in Kuressaare Castle, on the island of Saaremaa. A week later, on 12 February, “Jääaaria” will be performed in the Paide Music and Theatre House, and the final concert will be on 15 February in Anija Manor.

Tickets are €15 in advance, and €20 at the door. They can be purchased online here.
