Tartu Celebrates the New Year with Music

The New Year will be welcomed in Tartu in a musical atmosphere on 31 December. The celebration begins with a concert featuring the acclaimed guitarist and producer Raul Ojamaa, along with keyboardist and singer Jon Hazel.

The programme starts at 23:30 with the first part of the concert. At midnight, the audience will receive video greetings from the Mayor of Tartu, Urmas Klaas, and the President of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis. After the greetings, the concert will continue on Vabaduse Boulevard until 1:00.

For several years now, Tartu has celebrated the New Year without fireworks. The city has deliberately given up fireworks in order to reduce noise disturbance and environmental impact. The ban on loud fireworks is part of Tartu’s guidelines for organising environmentally friendly events.

Festive activities are also available during the daytime. Tartu’s Christmas City and ice rink will be open on both 31 December and 1 January from 10:00 to 22:00. Skate rental and cafés in the area will operate from 10:00 to 21:00.
