Trammi baar has a new life

Trammi baar has a new life

Some time ago, it was reported on Tallinn-related forums that Kopli’s legendary “Trammi Baar” had stopped operating. The “information agencies” in question also reported that a Georgian restaurant called Batumi had opened in the same premises.

We decided to go see what the new place looks like. Kopli can be easily reached by tram, on lines 1, 2 and 5. When we arrived at the location, our eyes were drawn to the new restaurant’s big sign on the wall. For a while we wondered if the restaurant was open or even in operation, because the curtains on the window covered the view inside and the place seemed eerily quiet. We tried the door, which to our delight opened, and we stepped into the middle of lively chatter.

Georgian dishes were offered on the menu, including odzahur, hinkalei, and tsahohbili. This time we chose a more familiar-sounding wiener-schnitzel. The portion in question was generous in size, the meat was thickly breaded and the crust was nice and crispy. In addition to the basic drink selection, there seemed to be Georgian wines on the shelf, we enjoyed a traditional Georgian Natakhtari beer.
