Today is Fotografiska Tallinn’s third birthday – to mark the occasion, a major exhibition by American Photographer Frank Ockenfels III will open

On Friday, June 17, Fotografiska Tallinn will celebrate its third birthday with the opening of a major exhibition by American Photographer Frank Ockenfels III. The exhibition showcases the works of a colourful artist over his 30-year career.

Frank Ockenfels (b. 1960) is a photographer, artist and film director best known for his surreal portraits. He has captured famous actors, musicians and bands in his pictures. Nirvana, David Bowie, David Lynch, Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Natalie Portman and many other celebrities have been filmed by Ockenfels.

The exhibition is divided into different sections that allow you to follow the development of Frank Ockenfels III as an artist throughout his 30-year career.

Using a variety of techniques such as photography, painting and collage, as well as experimenting with different types of lighting, lenses and cameras, Ockenfels strives to break the boundaries between photography and artwork. His occasional violent processing of photographs using scissors, ink, or charcoal makes portraits of people also reflect the artist himself.

“Frank Ockenfels III is an artist who dares to try and do it with the celebrities we love. This may even seem shocking to viewers. When you look at his photographs, you don’t immediately realize whether it is a painting, a drawing, a collage or something else,” says Maarja Loorents, exhibition manager at Fotografiska Tallinn.

Tonight at 11 pm there will be a night tour with the artist himself. The exhibition will be open until October 9.
