Using a taxi in Tallinn

Getting a taxi is easy in Tallinn. When you arrive at the port or airport, there is often a long queue of taxis right in front of the terminal waiting for you. In Estonia, each taxi company defines its own prices. However, reliable large taxi companies such as Tallink Takso and Forus Takso offer fair prices and a reliable and safe service.

The popular app Bolt also offers taxi services, but they do not have the right to drive right in front of the ferry terminal. They often wait for customers in the public parking lots of the port, which are also not far from the main door of the terminal. However, what makes apps like Bolt and Uber easy to use is that you can track the location of the taxi on the map and see the price of the trip in advance.

The price per kilometer of regular taxis varies depending on the day. The prices are displayed in the side window as well as on the dashboard of all official and reliable taxis. The driver’s photo card must also be visible in the taxi. The price list must show the start fee, the kilometer price, and the waiting fee. The price of the trip is always shown on the taxi meter, so you should not agree to a price in advance

Taxis must provide customers with a receipt. If the taxi driver does not give you a printed receipt for the trip, you do not have to pay for the trip. The receipt for a taxi trip ordered with the Bolt and Uber applications will be sent to your email. You should be careful when choosing a taxi, because the prices of some companies are many times higher than reliable taxi companies.

If you suspect that you have been a victim of taxi fraud in Tallinn, send a complaint to the address korrapidaja@tallinnlv.ee or call the number of Tallinn police on +372 144 10.
