Tomorrow a kick sledding competition will take place on the shores of Peipsi Lake

Tomorrow (March 5), a kick sledding competition will take place in Kolkja on the shores of Peipsi lake. The event is part of the “Tartumaa liikumisaasta” event program.

Along Peipsi lake, in the wintertime, it is common for locals to use kick sleds to visit neighbours or go to the village shop. Sledding is so popular that sporting competitions take place.

Anyone can participate in the Kolkja kick-sledding competition. You can either bring your own kick sled or rent one from the competition organisers. You can also register for the race on the spot on the day of the competition.

During the winter festival, local edible delicacies will be in plentiful supply. In addition, the organisers promise a cultural program and winter party.

If the strength of the ice on Peipsi lake is sufficient, the competition will be held on the lake, but if there is not enough ice, instead of a sledding competition, a trip to the village of Kolkja will be organised for the guests. However, at the moment, it seems that the ice thickness is sufficient for the competition to take place.

The event which will take place from 12 to 3 pm, includes races for the following age groups under 7, 8–12 years, 13–16 years, and men’s and women’s categories for those 17 and over. In addition, teams of four will have their own competition. If the weather permits, there will also be a snowmobile race. The lengths of the races are 400 meters and 800 meters.

There will be prizes for the best racers in each category, as well as an award for the best outfit.
