The Cult—8525 Tour

The Cult is one of rock’s legendary bands. Formed in 1983 in Bradford, England, The Cult reached commercial success only two years later with the release of their second studio album, “Dreamtime”, which produced the megahit “She Sells Sanctuary”. They later achieved success after breaking into the mainstream American music scene before the end of the 1980s.

Ian Astbury on vocals and Billy Duffy on guitar are the band’s core songwriters, as well as original members. The band have been known as a post-punk band, as well as gothic, but they are more known as a rock band in the US. By some accounts they are even hard rock or heavy metal, but some accounts may also not have ever listened to The Cult.

“Under the Midnight Sun”, the band’s eleventh studio album, was released in 2022. A fun fact is that the title of the album is said to have come from lead singer Astbury’s experience at the 1986 Provinssrock festival in Finland. “It’s three in the morning, the sun’s up, and there’s all these beautiful people in this halcyon moment. People are laying on the grass, making out, drinking, smoking. It was an incredible moment. When the world stopped [for the pandemic], I had this moment to write in real time, to calculate. I was compelled by this vision, this anomaly, this memory, of being under the midnight sun.”

The Cult promise to play their greatest hits from throughout their more than four decades of music, as well as music from the aforementioned album. Astbury and Duffy will be joined by John Tempesta of White Zombie, Grant Fitzpatrick, and Damon Fox of Bigelf.

Doors open at 19:00, and more information and tickets are available here.
