Tallinn Fringe Festival Reaches Record Numbers

The tenth edition of the Fringe Festival, a festival of performing arts and cultural entertainment, brought a record number of performers and audiences to Tallinn this year.
Held annually in early autumn from 18 August to 18 September, this year’s festival featured a total of 159 artists and entertainers from 23 different countries. The fact that two-thirds of the performers come from outside Estonia also makes the shows more accessible to tourists visiting Tallinn. The event therefore has a genuinely international spirit that transcends language barriers.
The month-long festival programme included theatre, comedy, music, circus, dance, cabaret and magic, as well as other performances. The selection can be explored retrospectively on the festival archive page. More than 12,600 tickets were sold during the month, approximately 20% more than last year. Advance ticket sales, the proportion and number of indoor performances held at a total of 35 different venues, and the number of sold-out performances were all the highest in the festival’s history.
Tallinn Fringe operates according to an “open access” principle. The festival has no central programme committee that selects performers or shows and assigns them venues. Instead, the programme is created through collaboration between artists and venues. This has also encouraged many smaller clubs, bars and community spaces to offer cultural programmes, venues that might otherwise have a higher threshold for participation.
The next Tallinn Fringe Festival will once again take place across Tallinn from 18 August to 18 September 2027.
