Nightlife is a fascinating and extremely fun pastime for many, many people around the world. But what most people who love nightlife don’t realise is exactly what must go on behind the scenes to create a successful party, event, or festival. KAUGE Festival explores just this, as it offers participants the chance to experience an entire party like they never have before.
Initially introduced as part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 programme, “Project Kauge” is now supported for the second year running by the Tartu City Government, and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
KAUGE as a festival is said to “celebrate the umbral side of art, music, and club culture”. What this means is the shadow side, or behind the scenes. This year’s programme offers various workshops providing real, hands-on experience both in music production, and visual design. A club isn’t just a room with a dance floor. It is full of art, decorations, lighting fixtures, and much, much more.
There will also be panel discussions on nightlife, and how it is organised. Expect to hear crazy tales of how an unlikely event became successful at the very last moment, or how incredibly mundane certain aspects of event organising can be.
The programme for KAUGE Festival 2025 will pivot into the nighttime regime. Dance music by artists from Italy, Türkiye, and Estonia will continue long into the early hours of the morning. Featuring Beste Hira from Türkiye, Massimiliano Pagliara from Italy, and Inner Lakes, also of Italy, the music will also have Estonian artists such as Arto, Cask, Jaan, Mava, MRT, Nechaev, Noa, Ost Euro, and Tanel.
