Haapsalu White Nights Music Festival 2026

Every summer the seaside town of Haapsalu celebrates Estonia’s famous “white nights” with four days of concerts in some of the country’s most atmospheric, and historic, venues. Haapsalu’s medieval castle, cathedral, churches, and tree-lined resort streets will provide the backdrop for classical music, choral works, contemporary Estonian artists, and even family programming from 2–5 July. Dubbed the Haapsalu White Nights Music Festival, this festival organised by Eesti Kontsert is haapsalutely one of the highlights of Estonia’s cultural programmes in summer.

The opening evening features one of the festival’s most distinctive collabs: Duo Ruut and the Estonian National Male Choir in the castle courtyard. Duo Ruut, made up of Katariina Kivi and Ann-Lisett Rebane, has built an international reputation for its highly original approach of performing together on a single Estonian kannel while combining two vocal lines into an intimate, contemporary folk sound. At Haapsalu they are joined by the 46 singers of the Estonian National Male Choir under conductor Mikk Üleoja, performing music from Duo Ruut’s latest album, “Ilmateade”, or “Weather Report”, in new arrangements for the male choir and ensemble. The concert follows a breakthrough year for the duo, whose performances at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival attracted international attention, including from the BBC.

The festival will conclude with a family concert, “Lotte, Bruno and the Story of the Musical Instruments”, at the Haapsalu Culture Centre. Lotte, the famous dog from the internationally popular Estonian animated films and books, is one of the country’s best-known children’s characters. The performance introduces young audiences to musical instruments through storytelling, music and humour, making it an accessible first concert experience for children while providing an entertaining finale to the festival weekend.

One of the festival’s greatest strengths is its setting. Rather than taking place in a single concert hall over and over, the performances of the Haapsalu White Nights Music Festival are spread across Haapsalu’s most beautiful historic venues. This integration of the event with the town itself invites visitors to spend long summer evenings moving between concerts, cafés, and the seaside promenade while enjoying one of Estonia’s most picturesque historic towns.
