Grillfest Event on 1 May in Nõmme

The first day of May in Estonia doesn’t have to be a letdown for those who normally celebrate it in their home country. Grillfest is a popular traveling event that is exactly what the name says it is: a festival for grilling! In the Nõmme district of Tallinn on 1 May, from 11:00 until 16:00, this family-oriented event will take place. Entry is free, and there will be lots more to do than just eat great food.

While Grillfest’s main event is in June, this sneak peak is already big enough to merit a visit by anyone who wants to sample the atmosphere and flavours of Estonia’s largest summer food festival. All regions of the country will be represented. There will be food tastings, live demonstrations, competitions, and entertainment suitable for all ages.

A central feature of the event is the opportunity to sample a wide range of seasonal grilling products from different Estonian producers. Professional grill masters, working in collaboration with partners such as BBQ Entertainment and Hansa Gurmee, prepare large quantities of food for free tasting, giving visitors a chance to discover new products and flavours.

In addition to tasting sessions, the event offers practical learning opportunities. Demonstrations of modern grilling equipment, including gas and ceramic grills, are accompanied by advice and tips as part of a public “grill school” concept aimed at improving participants’ cooking skills. This educational element reflects the broader goal of the Grillfest initiative: to promote knowledge of food preparation, and help consumers choose the best products at the grocery store.

Another important component is the presentation of award-winning Estonian food products. Organised in cooperation with the Estonian Food Industry Association, the event showcases winners of the “Best Estonian Food Product 2026” competition, offering visitors insight into current trends and innovations in the local food sector.

The full programme for the event in Nõmme at the Railway Station Event Area is available in Estonian here.
