The Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design is celebrating its birthday today (July 16) with free admission, activities and ice cream.
ETDM opened in 1980 for the sailing regatta of the Olympic Games, at the same time the ice cream Regatt was born. It has already become a traditional birthday treat at the museum that guests receive free Regatt ice cream.
Children can make their own rings inspired by the exhibition “Local Beauty: Tallinn Jewelry Factory”. Exploring the permanent exhibition “Collected Works” will also be made more exciting by activity sheets, which are available in three languages.
In the museum, the permanent exhibitions “Collected Works” and “Introduction to Estonian Design” will be open throughout the day, as well as the exhibition “Local Beauty: Tallinn Jewelry Factory”, which introduces a company that played a very important role in the history of Estonian design.
Tanel Veenre’s personal exhibition “Bluebeard” can also be seen, where for the first time, the masks created by the jewelry artist and versatile designer over the past ten years are exhibited.
As well as the free admission, activities and ice cream, all prints in the museum shop will also be 20 per cent cheaper than usual. The museum and the shop will be open from 11 am to 6 pm as usual today.
