Nomade Restaurant Is a Tasty Delight

Nomade serves a perfect ribeye steak, but don’t forget to order a side dish as well.

A chic atmosphere during these dark nights is exactly what I wanted, and Nomade Restaurant in the new Golden Gate building at Ahtri 6 in Tallinn provided just that. At this time of year it’s smart to make a reservation, which I was able to do online in only seconds. When I arrived at the venue, the friendly staff offered to hang my coat up, and I was guided toward my table. The modern architecture boasted floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides of the restaurant, so I felt a bit like I was on display, but the tasteful house music helped me enjoy this feeling.

Being a steak guy, of course I ordered the grilled ribeye, for €25. What I didn’t notice was that side dishes had to be ordered—and paid for—separately, so when I ordered my steak, I was served exactly a steak. There was a bit of salad on the side, but it would have been nice to have a potato or something. The choices, I later found out, were French fries with spicy mayonnaise, creamed potatoes, and grilled and marinated vegetables, each for €5. The steak was perfect, however.

It was good that I had made a reservation, because the venue was packed with people having lively conversations. When I had finished my steak, a man from another table asked me to take a photo of him with his dinner companions. After handing his smartphone back to him, I asked how they had enjoyed dinner. He and the three ladies at his table—he was French—all said it was delicious. I could see fish, lamb, pasta, and chicken on their table. Something for everyone.

Still a tad hungry, however, because I didn’t have a potato on my plate, I ordered some dessert, and I chose the house cake with ice cream. While the cake was indeed filling and tasty, Nomade seems to have a problem with side dishes, as again, what I had ordered was all alone on the plate. No ice cream. I would still go back, however, and remember to specifically order side dishes, and insist that what is described on the menu be served. I might even take advantage of their all-day breakfast!
