Diverse Autumn at St Nicholas Church and Museum

The European Day of Languages is celebrated with guided tours at the St Nicholas Church and Museum

In honour of the European Day of Languages on 26 September, the St Nicholas Church and Museum offers guided tours in Swedish, Finnish, and Spanish. The event celebrates Europe’s rich linguistic diversity, and provides an opportunity to explore Estonia’s medieval church art in your own or a chosen European language.

The guided tours begin at 13:00 in Swedish, 14:00 in Finnish, 14:30 in Spanish, and 15:00 in English. Tours are also available in Danish and Hungarian upon request.

The tours last approximately 30–40 minutes and are included in the museum admission fee. No advance registration is required, but it is recommended to arrive a bit early. The meeting point is near the coat rack located by the museum shop.

The autumn seminars cover the history of Estonian-language literature.

The exhibition “Estonian Book 500. Relics”, dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Estonian-language book, is complemented by the lecture series “Stories of the Book”, in which well-known historians, linguists, cultural, and literary scholars explore key topics in the history of Estonian-language literature. The seminars are conducted in Estonian.

During the autumn, four seminars will be held covering early popular education, school life in the 18th and 19th centuries, the Age of Enlightenment, the development of Livonian-language literature, and the national awakening. Music and poetry performances related to the topics will add a special atmosphere to the events.

The seminars take place on Saturdays at 13:00 at the St Nicholas Church and Museum. The “Kirjan tarinat” series is organised in cooperation with the Estonian Literary Society, and supported by the Estonian Cultural Endowment. The events are free of charge but require advance registration here.
