Tallinn Fringe is a festival that is returning for its ninth year in a row this August. With a strong focus on comedy performances, including stand-up, the festival invites artists of all walks of life to perform live, and exhibit their art in numerous venues across the city. Each year sees Tallinn Fringe attracting more international artists.
Entry for the many, many shows can vary from free, to just a few euros, to the “pay what you want”, or bucket system, as you leave after the performance. The complete programme is available here. Venues include the Estonian Theatre and Music Museum, Heldeke!, Impeerium Improv Theatre, Kidrakuur, Kopli Couture, Philly Joe’s, Ratas&Kohv, Ruutu 10, Sakala3, and finally, the Town Hall Square itself.
The most popular genres of performances in addition to stand-up will be music, theatre, comedy theatre, circus performances, cabaret, and burlesque. Of particular interest is one artist performing “Doctor Glas”, a 1905 novel by Hjalmar Söderberg of Sweden. This artist is none other than Daniel Gerroll, renowned British/American actor best recognised for his work both on screen and on the stage. With a central role in the 1981 classic film “Chariots of Fire”, and most recently as a character in Marvel’s “Daredevil: Born Again” from 2025, Gerroll’s face will likely be known by most people.
Tickets to many of the events can also be purchased in advance. For more information, see here. Enjoy Tallinn Fringe!
