In October 2024, Estonia’s accommodation establishments hosted 275,000 tourists, marking a 9 per cent increase compared to the same month in 2023, according to Statistics Estonia. This growth was driven by a 15 per cent rise in foreign tourists and a 4 per cent increase in domestic visitors.
Despite this positive trend, the total number of tourists remained 5 per cent lower than in October 2019, the year before the pandemic. Notably, foreign tourism from countries like Finland, Latvia, and Germany saw significant increases, with Finland contributing to 40 per cent of all foreign visitors. Domestic tourism also showed signs of recovery, with a notable rise in October after a decline in most of 2024.
A majority of foreign visitors, around 76 per cent, visited Estonia for leisure, while 18 per cent were business travellers. Harjumaa remained the most popular destination for both domestic and foreign tourists, with other popular counties including Pärnu, Tartu, and Ida-Viru.
The average cost of an overnight stay in Estonia was 46 euros per person, reflecting a slight increase compared to last year. The strong performance in tourism further highlights Estonia’s appeal as a prime destination for both international and domestic travellers.
