18.10.2024–04.05.2025 Sooster 100: View from Private Collections, Mikkel Museum, Tallinn

The exhibition commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Estonian surrealist Ülo Sooster. It features nearly 160 pieces from private archives, many on public display for the first time, that trace Sooster’s artistic journey from his early work in Hiiumaa to his final unfinished pieces.

 

01–30.11 Taste Adventure, Ida-Virumaa

Throughout November, restaurants and cafes across the eastern county of Ida-Virumaa will present special three- and four-course tasting menus, themed dinners and live entertainment.

 

08–24.11 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), Tallinn, Tartu

The Black Nights Film Festival 2024 will screen 249 feature films and 323 short films from 81 countries. This year’s programme includes 52 world and 21 international premieres. Highlights include award-winning films from major festivals, Oscar contenders, a new international documentary competition, and a special programme, “Standing with Ukraine.”

 

16–24.11 Arvo Pärt: Sacred Minimalism Concert, Tallinn, Tartu

Estonia’s most renowned composer, Arvo Pärt, brings his poetic, minimalist compositions to audiences in Tallinn and Tartu. The concert programme includes beloved works such as Für Alina and Spiegel im Spiegel.

 

18.11 Dance performance Soledad, Vaba Lava, Narva

Soledad is a fifty-minute dance performance that combines flamenco and contemporary dance to explore the theme of solitude. Directed and choreographed by Ingrid Mugu, the production features musicians from Spain, Canada, and Estonia. The work contemplates how people may either consciously or unconsciously withdraw from reality and relationships.

 

20.11 The Great Gatsby ballet show, Alexela Concert Hall, Tallinn

Following last year’s success, The Great Gatsby returns to Tallinn. This performance features leading stars from the finest dance theatres across the USA and Europe. Choreographed by Dwight Rhoden, known for collaborations with Cirque du Soleil, Madonna, and U2, this ballet is accompanied by music composed by Ukrainian-Russian composer Konstantin Meladze.

 

22–24.11 Glenn Miller Orchestra, Pärnu, Tartu, Tallinn

The Glenn Miller Orchestra, led by Uli Plettendorff, arrive in Estonia as part of a European tour. The orchestra will perform classic big band jazz from the 1930s–50s, including iconic pieces like “Moonlight Serenade.” As one of only three orchestras worldwide authorised to perform under the Glenn Miller name, it is the only group allowed to perform in the Baltic region. Plettendorff, a longtime trombonist with the orchestra, takes over after Wil Salden’s retirement following over 40 years of leadership.

 

22.11–27.12 Tallinn Christmas Market, Town Hall Square, Tallinn

The annual Christmas Market in Tallinn opens on  November 22 at 6  p.m. and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Food and drinks are served until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The market offers handmade crafts, accessories, and festive decorations, ideal for seasonal gift shopping.

 

23.11–01.12Early Music Festival, Laulasmaa, Otepää, Tallinn, Tartu

The Early Music Festival 2024 will feature performances by musicians from the UK, France, Spain, and Finland. The opening concert on November 23 at the House of the Blackheads in Tallinn will feature the Estonian Baroque Orchestra and Collegium Musicale Choir who will perform works by Georg Philipp Telemann. All concerts in Tallinn’s Old Town will be held in medieval venues, providing an authentic atmosphere for the music from the medieval and Baroque periods.

 

25.11–15.12 Christmas Jazz, Pärnu, Tallinn, Tartu, Viljandi

This year’s Christmas Jazz Festival features 18 concerts all across Estonia. The festival opens with the Crosscurrents Trio, an ensemble with 33 Grammy nominations and 8 wins. Other performers include Estonian soul singer Rita Ray, American jazz vocalist Veronica Swift, Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodríguez, Lady Blackbird (USA), and Estonian artist Oleg Pissarenko.
