Artist Vilen Künnapu’s latest exhibition “Villu lendab” (Villu flies in English) has opened in the contemporary art gallery at Viimsi Artium. The exhibition takes the audience on a kind of spiritual journey from Tallinn to the Greek islands and Mexico.
The centerpiece of the exhibition is the circular painting “Villu Lendab”, which not only gives the exhibition its name, but to which all the other pieces emanate.
A few of the 30 paintings in the exhibition have been completed this year, including the paintings from the Samos islands series. Künnapu’s earlier paintings of various houses, cities, islands, and natural places are also on display, alternating with portraits and human figures. Also represented are some paintings based on early Renaissance art.
These latter paintings have a religious theme, however, all of the exhibition is a kind of spiritual journey. One that began with a shamanistic internship in Lithuania that the artist took part in some time ago.
Vilen Künnapu’s exhibition, “Villu lendab”, will remain on display at Viimsi Artium until April 28.
