Tomorrow, February 6, Latvian cellist Irina Vylegzhanina and Italian pianist Lyubov Gromoglasova will perform an enchanting chamber music concert at Kadriorg Palace in Tallinn. The focus of the performance will be on pieces composed by the Italian maestro Giuseppe Martucci and the celebrated Johannes Brahms.
Martucci, often hailed as the “Italian Brahms”, forged a path divergent from the operatic traditions of his time, infusing Italian music with a renewed passion for non-operatic compositions. His Cello Sonata, written at the tender age of 24, showcases a remarkable maturity and Italian brilliance, which is sadly rarely heard in today’s concert halls.
Following Martucci’s masterpiece, the duo will navigate the powerful currents of Brahms’s Sonata in E minor for cello and piano, op. 38. As a tribute to Bach, Brahms intricately weaves themes from The Art of Fugue into this three-movement sonata, underscoring the piano’s pivotal role.
Tickets for the concert, which will begin at 7 pm at Kadriorg Palace in Tallinn, are still available at Piletilevi.
