WTA 250 Tallinn Open main tournament starts today

 

Today sees the beginning of the main draw of the WTA 250 Tallinn Open. The tournament that will take place from today until October 2, will see 32 of the best tennis players in the world compete, including Annett Kontaveit (WTA Nr 4) and Kaia Kanepi (WTA Nr 32) from Estonia, and Jelena Ostapenko (WTA Nr 17) from Latvia.

Last weekend saw the completion of the qualifiers for WTA 250 Tallinn Open, 24 players competed for the final 6 places in the tournament. The qualifiers included Viktorija Golubic (WTA 89), Viktoria Kuzmova (WTA 104), and up and coming 17-year-old Czech player Linda Noskova (WTA Nr 105).

Today, however, see the beginning of the main draw. In total, 32 of the best players in the world will compete in the tournament, which is being held for the very first time this year. These include Annett Kontaveit (WTA Nr 4), Belinda Bencic (WTA Nr 15), Beatriz Haddad Maia (WTA Nr 15), Jelena Ostapenko (WTA Nr 17), and Madison Keys (WTA Nr 18).

For Estonian player Kaia Kanepi (WTA Nr 32) it is a great opportunity “for young people, also for other Estonian fans and coaches to see such a high level of tennis and players, maybe they have never seen live.” 

Between September 26 and 29 the first two rounds of the tournament will take place. The quarter and semi-finals will follow between September 30 and October 1. The final will be held on Sunday, October 2.
