Pussy Riot to Headline Tallinn Colors Festival This Summer

 

Best known for their “shock music” and art in protest of the Kremlin, Russian group Pussy Riot is recognised around the world for their message, and their antics. Fronted by Nadya Tolokonnikova, who was imprisoned as a result of the group’s performances, Pussy Riot will take the stage at this summer’s Tallinn Colors ‘25 festival.

Nadya is not the only member to have served time in Russia. Maria Alyokhina, another core member of Pussy Riot, has been arrested at least three times. In 2022, it was announced that she would serve time in a penal colony instead of continuing house arrest. She then decided to flee Russia, disguised as a delivery driver.

“Riot Days” is the feminist punk group’s latest production, chronicling the reality of political persecution in Russia, resistance against Putin, and Maria’s escape from the dictatorship. Pussy Riot’s performance at Tallinn Colors will feature their latest, most up-to-date version of “Riot Days”.

Pussy Riot can be easily recognised on stage for wearing their iconic masks, which mock both the Russian military’s habit of hiding their soldiers’ faces, and for symbolising the anonymity of the plight of women around the world. “Riot Days” has so far been performed over 400 times on three continents, helping to raise money for Ukrainian children’s hospitals, and providing aid to political prisoners in Russia.

“We must not forget that Russia is the only aggressor, and Ukraine is the one fighting for its sovereignty and freedom. Pussy Riot’s presence at Tallinn Colors is an important reminder,” said Roman Demchenko, the festival’s organiser and CEO of Paavli Kultuurivabriku, where the festival will be held.

Tallinn Colors is a festival that celebrates global music, culture, art, food, workshops, and more. The final lineup of all events at the festival will be finalised in the coming months. For now, all available information can be found on their website.
