Imagine an entire exhibition with one rule: everything must be made of gingerbread. Over a hundred artists, architects, designers, ceramic artists, and visual designers have contributed to this special, and very popular exhibition in Tallinn’s Design and Architecture Gallery on Pärnu mnt from 29 November until 7 January.
The gallery itself features gingerbread creations recreating pop culture and art, everyday life, fantasies, and anything else the artists can imagine. This is one of the most popular annual Christmas traditions in Tallinn, and it’s been going on since 2006. Originally, it was just a one-off event, but as it has continued to grow in popularity, over 500 artists have taken part over the years.
Each year has a different theme, and this year is “Armastus”, or “Love”. And if you would love to eat what you see in the gallery, rest assured you can! Maybe not the specific exhibits, but there are many that you can buy on site, and enjoy with a warm drink. The original music is also made by Estonian composers.
Gingerbread Mania is open every day from 11:00 to 18:00, except on holidays, when it will be open on a shortened schedule. Tickets are €4.50 for children and adults, and for kids 6 and under, entry is free. More information is available here.
