Beer Party in Tartu—Pühaste Brewery

Tartu’s very own Pühaste Brewery is celebrating its ninth anniversary in the best way it possibly could: with a Beer Party, or Õllepidu in Estonian. Over 25 breweries will be represented at this event, from 12 different European countries. Four Estonian bands will take the stage. And best of all, entry is free!

The beer tasting, however, is not. Pre-purchased tickets are only €18, and €22 at the door. Or you can buy by the glass using on-site tokens for a mere €1.50. Beer tickets are available here, and there are many different kinds of tickets. The aforementioned standard tickets; Õllesõbra VIP, or Beer Friend pass, which allows unlimited access to available beers; and the Pühakud, or Saints, pass, which grants…ahem…even more unlimited access to these beers. Don’t forget to call a taxi.

Countries whose beers are represented include of course Estonia, as well as Latvia, Finland, Germany, Romania, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Poland, and the UK.

Pühaste Brewery’s Beer Party on 6 September begins at 14:00 and ends around 23:00 that same night. Throughout the event, four Estonian bands will perform. These are: the very popular Zetod, Zahir, Nuggat, and Pime Koer, which means “blind dog”. They bought the Saints pass.

For years Estonian law did not allow so-called microbreweries, which today are known more as “craft beers”. Years ago this law was changed, and since then the craft beer industry in Estonia has quite literally exploded, and today the country boasts well over 40 breweries. This is quite a significant number for a country this size. Beer connoisseurs frequently tour Estonia, and they keep coming back for a good reason.

See you in Tartu!
