Films From the World of Fashion in Tallinn and Tartu

The film festival MoeKunstiKino, focusing on fashion and the people and phenomena of the fashion industry, will once again take place in Tallinn and Tartu in October. For ten years, the event has brought top-class documentary films to Estonia, screened either in English or with Estonian and English subtitles, making them well suited as entertainment for a rainy day of travel.
This year’s festival programme, taking place from 6–11 October, includes nine films, one of which is a special screening paying tribute to the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, who passed away in August. Completed in 2018, “Kusama—Infinity” tells the story of the radical woman, who lived to the age of 97 and had to overcome a wide range of obstacles and prejudices related to sexism, racism and mental health during her career. Previously screened at, among other places, the Sundance Film Festival, the film has received several award nominations over the years.
MoeKunstiKino’s other internationally renowned name is Brigitte Bardot. Screened twice in Tallinn and once in Tartu, “Bardot” examines the career of the French actress and fashion and cultural icon, as well as her later work in support of animal rights. The French-Belgian documentary, directed by Alain Berliner and Elora Thevenet, premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
More recent productions include “Marc by Sofia”, directed by Sofia Coppola, which explores the career and creative work of Marc Jacobs. The film opens the festival at Kino Sõprus in Tallinn on 6 October and will be screened at Elektriteater in Tartu on 7 October.
In Tallinn, the festival’s other screenings are also concentrated at Kino Sõprus, located at Vana-Posti 8 in the Old Town. During the festival, audiences can see the films “Akris—Fashion with a Heritage”, “Gucci—The Empire of Scandal”, “Naked Ambition”, “Mouth Full of Golds”, “Brunello, the Gracious Visionary” and “A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole”, in addition to those mentioned above.
In Tartu, the films will be screened at Elektriteater, located at Jakobi 1. The Tartu programme includes “Marc by Sofia”, “Bardot”, “Naked Ambition” and “A Man with Sole: The Impact of Kenneth Cole”.
