Dubbed “Estonia’s smallest festival”, RuhnuRahu, or “Ruhnu Peace”, three days of music, film, comedy, literature, workshops and more are available to visitors. But just exactly how small is this festival? It’s limited to a few hundred festival passes, because that’s the capacity of the ferry to the island. A few more can come if they arrive by their own boat.
The island of Ruhnu itself will play a major role in the experience, due to its remoteness. The organisers in fact call the island the festival’s headline performer! This is in addition to J.M.K.E., Estonia’s most famous punk band, celebrating their 40th anniversary. South of Savoy, Meisterjaan, Susanna Viktoria, Pille-Rite Rei, and Tomas del Real will also perform.
Comedic actor Jan Uuspõld will also perform, adding a sense of humour to the festival. Film screenings include director Heilika Pikkov‘s documentary “My Family and Other Clowns”, and Maria Reinup‘s short film “Arütmia”, or “Arrhythmia”, which was selected as Estonia’s best short film of 2026. Poetry is represented by European Poetry Slam champion Joonas Veelmaa.
Beyond the stage programme, visitors can take part in a cycling tour of the island, informal discussion sessions, an art exhibition, and activities spread across several new festival locations. Rather than concentrating events in a single venue, RuhnuRahu encourages guests to explore different parts of the island throughout the weekend.
Founded more than a decade ago, RuhnuRahu has built its reputation on remaining deliberately small, and community-oriented. The organisers have chosen not to expand beyond the island’s natural limits, believing that the intimate atmosphere is one of the festival’s defining characteristics.
